An old hillside neighbourhood in Akçaabat, west of Trabzon. Its narrow cobbled streets and Ottoman-era houses have been preserved; most of it has been an urban conservation area since 1988. On the way back you can also try the district’s köfte, which carries a geographical indication.

Ottoman-era civil architecture, narrow cobbled streets and steep slopes have been preserved; Roman and Byzantine traces are also found.

The municipality restored the Timurciler, Kanoğlu and Mehmet Efendi mansions; as of 2019 they were in use as a café, a restaurant, accommodation and a shop for local produce.

The foundation of Ortamahalle Mosque was laid on 26 September 1900 and it opened for worship on 10 February 1912; construction was funded by donations from tobacco growers.

Ortamahalle Museum opened in May 2023; it is in a building formerly used as a church, and mosaics that survive from the building are on display inside. It received 9,103 visitors in its first year.

Take the coast road west to Akçaabat; Ortamahalle is in the district centre. The streets are narrow and steep, so explore the neighbourhood on foot.
